Task 2

Telling about an experience

Length
120 to 150 words
Text type
A blog post, a forum message or a letter for several readers
Goal
This task assesses your ability to tell about a personal experience while sharing your impressions, opinions or arguments. It shows your writing skills, the range of your vocabulary and how well you structure your ideas.

A four-step structure

1. A catchy title

The title grabs the reader's attention and sums up your topic.

2. Introduction (25 to 30 words)

Introduce the event or experience and briefly say why it is worth reading about.

Example

I recently had the chance to take part in a cheese-making workshop on a local farm. The activity was both educational and fun.

3. Body (70 to 80 words)

This is the main part. Use lively, descriptive language and cover three points:

  • The activity: what you did, saw or learned.
  • The highlights: the atmosphere, the challenges, the people you met.
  • Your impressions: how you felt about it.
Example

We started the workshop by touring the farm and meeting the animals. Then, guided by a passionate cheesemaker, we learned how to turn milk into cheese. The most fascinating moment was the moulding stage, where everyone could personalize their creation.

4. Conclusion (25 to 30 words)

Sum up your impressions and end with a recommendation, a question for the reader or a look ahead.

Example

All in all, this workshop helped me understand traditional food crafts better. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to discover local know-how.

Tips for success

  • Follow the structure: keep the introduction, body and conclusion clearly separate.
  • Be concise and precise: avoid repeating yourself.
  • Match the tone to the format: a blog or a message to friends is more relaxed than a work forum.
  • Vary your ending: a question for the reader or a look ahead stands out more than a plain « je recommande ».
  • Proofread for spelling and agreement mistakes.
